When I am in the boxing ring for a sparring or training session and my mind wonders off, I get pretty hard punched in the face. I got distracted and was multi-tasking in my head, and that’s a wrong time to do that! The moment you step in the ring there is only ONE thing you will need to focus on: your opponent. There’s no real chance to multi-task in the ring. So, why don’t we take this example out of the ring and into the workplace?

Did you know that multi-tasking lowers your work quality and efficiency? In fact, some researchers suggest that multi-tasking can reduce productivity by almost 40%.

When we multi-task at work, it makes it more difficult for us to organise our thoughts and filter out irrelevant information. When that happens, you could increase your stress levels and build up anxiety. Not only does this impact your performance but also how you collaborate and engage with others in the long run.

Try and use the approach of boxing rounds, which is 3 minutes of pure intensity and focus on one thing and a 1-minute rest. A break to recover, reflect on what you have done and build resilience to continue with the next round. In this case, you break down and prioritise your next task(s) into rounds, each an hour of pure focus. Then take your well-deserved break of 30-45 minutes to recover and reflect.

Having this boxing round approach to your productivity isn't just for boxers or athletes. It’s a champion's mindset / a habit that you can train. A more efficient and smarter way that helps you to keep your performance up with a clear focus.

One goal. One round. One focus. One Action!
