DO YOU RATE YOUR FEELINGS DURING YOUR ACTIONS?

A simple jab can say a lot about how a fight can end. Last Saturday, we saw how Anthony Joshua, a respected well-round GB champ, got defeated by Andy Ruiz: a short heavy weight Mexican fighter. AJ dropped his jabs multiple times, which gave Andy the chance to charge in, landing fast and effective shots. Both were heavyweight fighters but the size was significantly different. That doesn’t matter in a fight but what does is, what you put in the training and having the confidence to feel the right moment to deliver right shots.
During training you can feel how a punch lands on a target or a pad. We learn from our coaches when we need make an improvement but, we mostly feel it when it’s the right punch, speed or power.
Training allows you space to develop, improve and learn new skills. Throughout training you play, you feel, you test you feel again. You start seeing the result when the feeling gets more aligned with what your desired outcome is. This ‘feeling’ is a tool of self improvement and a personal experience, because no one else can feel it. It’s your energy, effort and your comparison (benchmark) that makes you aware of what it is you’ve done.
If your are working on something that needs a result by end of the week, you will need to give yourself space , have the courage to do this action multiple times. The moment you keep doing so, the easier it gets to stay focused, have a positive mindset and build your own ‘technique’ / skills through your perseverance.
When you start your action, ask yourself
1. How did the action feel first time - scale of 0-10
2. Doing this again, how did it feel second time - scale 0-10
3. If there was a difference between the two rating, why was that?
4 What needs to be done to raise the rate of your feelings to get to10/10?
The moment you reach 10/10 means that the feeling of the action is perfectly aligned with your desired outcome. You are capable to do this effortlessly. With confidence and under pressure at the right time.
